As co-author of Stratification Economics and Disability Justice, I’m proud to share how this book reimagines how we study and address inequality in the U.S. Alongside Adam Hollowell, we explore how the insights of Black disabled activists can transform economic analysis. Too often, ableism is left out of conversations about systemic injustice. We argue that it must be considered alongside racism and misogyny to fully understand disparities in employment, health, wealth, and education.

This book bridges the gap between activism and academia, challenging traditional hierarchies in economics. We highlight the limitations of conventional data and offer intersectional research methods that better reflect lived experiences. Most importantly, we propose public policies—rooted in disability justice—that can lead to fairer employment, healthcare, and education systems. Black disabled activists have long led this work. It’s time economic theory caught up.
