BMJ COVID-19 in the US Series: Race, Racism & COVID-19

Updated: Mar 12

It's no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic had a devastating impact on Black people and other people of color in America. Our manuscript, Race, racism, and covid-19 in the US: lessons not learnt was published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) series on the US COVID response. In it, we outline how systemic or structural racism was the guiding force behind the COVID racial mortality and hospitalization disparities. We offer context and recommendations for the US to get it right before the next pandemic. In the video below, I discuss the myth of Black peculiarity, which was a running theme early in the COVID-19 pandemic, more can be found about Black peculiarity and an overview of our analysis in this article.
