Proud to share "I Am Not (Your) Superwoman, Black Girl Magic, or Beautiful Struggle: Rethinking the Resilience of Black Women and Girls" which was recently released in the American Psychologist. As Valerie and I were writing this, we felt that it as a love letter to Black women and girls, letting them (and us) know that they are seen, vibrant, and deserve better from our country. This article is also a proclomation, that we are not allowing Luthar's and Spencer's resilience frameworks to be mis-used and misunderstood. Society can no longer demand resilience from Black women and girls. Our systems need changing, and we offer recommendations for what systemic support could look like for Black women and girls.
