Can I tell you how thrilled I was to be nominated, and then over the moon to be a recipient of the IBM 2021 Global University Program Academic Award. Over the next year, I will gather a team to examine how risk and protective factors interact to produce Black infant and maternal health outcomes. The project is titled, Protective for Whom: Centering Black Infant & Maternal Health in Understanding Social Determinants. I hope that this research will help us understand what helps Black women, and under what conditions. When we know better, we can do right by Black mothers and their children.
